Hues of the Olympic Peninsula as Explored Through Haiku
by Bridget Carlson
The carbon black sea
Her veins churning salty blood
Murmurs to the selkies
Russet wolf of night
Chant secrets to the pearl moon
Lick my calloused paws
With eyes of lava
The charcoal raven spirals
Deep into the soul
The plum copper rose
Grows Spanish moss upon its
Back, let the rain fall
Ancient bones, stark, fierce
Like crimson pride on the half shell
Breathe life into me
Among the jade trees
I ponder the dynamics
Of the cosmic latte
The creamy seashell
Curls round like an orange peel
A briny malt shake
Sapphire stones of glass
Skip up the stream of consciousness
So says the salmon
Malachite forests
Haunt tempestuous islands
Tamed by tyrant seas
